Story Joining
Limitless possibilities can sometimes be overwhelming. Because posted stories can quickly become complicated with so many possibilities, the staff at Derivativ thought it would be a good idea to solidify the path most traveled through a story over time. This way, the stories can only get better. It also makes for stories that have been somewhat edited by the comunity.
Each story is solidified one branch level at a time through linking. The period for which each level will live is set when a root story is created. During this time, branches have the opertunity to gain popularity. The branch with the highest rating after the running period will then beome “linked” to the root. This means that whenever a user starts reding from a point in the linked chain, they will view all the chapters until the end of the link chain. This depriciates less popular storylines, and encourages everyone to write their best stuff.
Don’t fret; the branches that were not selected will still be viewable as alternate paths for a story. If they have been favorited, you and your friends can still enjoy these paths. They will also come up in search results.
